This site is located near Abbeville, South Carolina and features plentiful skeletal quartz crystal plates & smoky quartz crystal plates. On occasion small on up to very large amethyst crystals are found, but in general amethyst is consider rare at this location.

This site is great for folks who are new to collecting, as the sheer volume of quartz crystals make for easy pickings. Here, even with zero skill level, you'll find lots crystals to take home.

The amethyst pit affords the opportunity for strong advanced diggers to move lots of rock and work the veins, hoping to find an area with amethyst crystal overgrowths atop the skeletal plates.

The nitty gritty:
Rates are $15 a day for a single individual, a child younger than 16 years old, the fee is $6/day. Accompanying spouses that are not digging are charged $6 a day since a release form has to be signed and a permit issued, etc. Some senior citizens over 64 years old may qualify for the $6 a day rate, please inquire. Additionally, discounts ($10 /day) are given to club groups of ten people or more who schedule a trip.

Please schedule your trip in advance since you must complete and return a release form and I must in turn issue you a permit. Email sio2ga@bellsouth.net to book your visit. If you wish to arrange a last minute trip, this is possible, but you must fax the release and then mail a physical copy. Last minute " spur-of-the-moment " trips must be paid for via PAYPAL. A PayPal account takes only a few minutes to set up, just look for the PayPal link on www.ebay.com.
